Marriage is a sacred and beautiful union ordained by God; however, it is not immune to crisis. The marital challenges that plague marriages manifest through three core aspects: Finance, Fertility and Fidelity – the 3Fs.

The devil hates marriage. Hence, he uses the 3Fs to create disunity between couples, knowing that a couple can only have a blissful union and be fruitful when they are truly happy, financially fulfilled, and healthy.

Author's Story

I got married at 29 years old. By this time, many of my friends were already married. However, during my waiting period, I gained deep insights into marriage as I prepared for mine. I also observed three major factors that most married couples struggle with, which I tagged the 3Fs: Finance, Fertility and Fidelity. I noted that all three factors were present in some marriages, while only a handful of couples battled with either one or two of these factors. I pondered hard on this phenomenon, which seemed to be the reality of many marriages from time immemorial until now.

Years after I got married, I had challenges with one of the Fs – Finance. My husband and I struggled with finance, and it wasn’t palatable. We attempted different endeavours and applied to several jobs, but faced rejection each time. And when our situation worsened, we resorted to selling everything we could – our car, jewellery, etc., for sustenance. It was the most difficult phase of our married life. We only survived by God’s grace and through the help of loved ones.

Although I already had some understanding of these Fs, my experience in marriage further convinced me that every home deals with at least one of the Fs. I had a heartfelt discussion with my husband and explained to him how I had observed this phenomenon in other marriages and how the ‘finance’ factor was our own battle. Then I asked whether he would choose another F if he had the option. He was quick to respond, ‘No!’

However, while one of the Fs may seem preferable, none is easier to deal with.

In my case, with financial challenges, my husband and I prayed and tried all we could. We also resolved that this F would not break up our marriage. Instead, we would fight it together and defeat it. And we did, to the glory of God.

Sadly, over the years I have observed the dissolution of many marriages due to these Fs. Yet I believe that if couples can work together, they will defeat any issue they encounter in relation to finance, fertility and fidelity. This forms the purpose of this book, to prepare men and women for what lies ahead of them in marriage and how they can triumph over difficult situations and build beautiful homes.
